Summer 2026 brings a new opportunity to discover the Monastery of Oia, one of the most singular heritage complexes on the Galician coast, facing the Atlantic.
Between 1 July and 31 August, the monastery opens to the public with a programme of visits combining history, heritage and landscape in a unique setting currently undergoing continuous research and restoration.
If you are looking for things to do in Oia this summer, visiting the Monastery is one of the most outstanding cultural experiences in the area.

A monastery in the process of restoration
The Monastery of Oia is currently in a state of consolidated ruin, within an active process of restoration and heritage enhancement. This context makes the visiting experience unique: the monument is not static, but evolves as research and conservation works progress.
The Bretal Foundation promotes a cultural programme adapted to this process, keeping the monastery alive and accessible to the public.
Practical information for visitors
To make the most of the experience, it is recommended to:
- Wear comfortable clothing and footwear
- Be aware that the route includes outdoor and uneven areas
- Plan the visit in advance, especially at weekends
The visits are not recommended for people with reduced mobility or for pushchairs.
