From 1 July to 31 August, the Monastery of Oia opens its doors to offer a unique experience under the title “Monastery of Oia: A Summer to Rediscover”. An ideal plan for all lovers of heritage, history and archaeology.
With the latest archaeological intervention nearing completion, the Bretal Foundation—responsible for the monastery’s cultural activity—invites visitors to explore its history through guided tours that include the latest archaeological findings from this remarkable site. This is an exceptional opportunity to witness how ongoing research continues to reveal the secrets of this ancient place.
These visits reflect the Foundation’s commitment to public access, even while preparations continue for the major restoration works at the monastery.
When and how to visit the Monastery
Tuesdays: free access day, with accompanied (non-guided) visits in time slots at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 and 13:00. Although free of charge, capacity is limited and advance booking is recommended.
Wednesday to Sunday: guided tours led by experts offer an in-depth immersion into the monastery’s history. Available time slots are 11:30, 13:15, 16:30 and 18:15, with small groups to ensure a high-quality experience.
