A season packed with plans and activities for all ages
After two years of activity shaped by the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Oia Monastery is launching an extended and exciting new season, with a varied programme designed for visitors of all ages.
Over the past 24 months, the Monastery’s cultural programme was limited to the summer months. Like many other cultural initiatives, every event was carefully adapted to comply with public health measures, ensuring that culture could continue to be enjoyed safely. This commitment remains unchanged. While continuing to operate under current health and safety regulations, the Monastery is delighted to return to a full seasonal calendar, reopening its doors on Thursday 14 April and remaining open until October. The programme was officially presented today during an event held at the Monastery itself.
Alongside guided tours of the only Cistercian monastery located on the Atlantic coast, visitors can once again enjoy the popular Solpores series of sunset concerts, taking place throughout July and August. This year’s line-up includes Rivergood, Soul & Roll, Leticia Rey, and Olaya Alcázar. Each performance is accompanied by a glass of wine from Quinta de Couselo, the Monastery’s long-standing partner, while the sun sets over the Atlantic.
The Conversas series also returns, featuring Suso Vila on 30 April, José Fariña on 28 May, and Delmi Álvarez on 16 July.
As tradition dictates, the programme also includes a number of special events. Among them is “Treboada: When the Monks Fought the Barbary Pirates”, commemorating the anniversary of the Monastery’s most significant battle against Barbary corsairs. Designed especially for families, the event will take place on 23 April, when children and adults alike can enjoy storytelling sessions and interactive performances led by Raquel Queizás.
Another much-anticipated event is A Emoción dos Viños, taking place on 17 and 18 June. Over two days, wine enthusiasts will have the opportunity to discover and enjoy the true character of Galician wines in the unique surroundings of the Monastery.
This season also introduces an exciting new experience: CONCILIUM, the first live-action historical role-playing game to be held in a monastery in Galicia. More than a traditional murder mystery, participants will step into the shoes of 15th-century characters as they uncover the history of the Monastery through an immersive experience. Authentic costumes form part of the adventure, and eight editions of the game will take place between April and September, ensuring that as many visitors as possible can enjoy this unique event.
The activity is sponsored by Banda Cervezas and Calabizo, whose locally produced craft beer and traditional Galician chorizo, both made in the Val Miñor, can be enjoyed during the experience.
