Visits and events
Since 2005 the monastery has been accessible to the public on different occasions, such as during the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of its declaration as BIC (Bien de Interés Cultural) in 2006 and, later, thanks to the collaboration of ACAMO (Asociación de Amigos del Monasterio de Oia) whose volunteers showed the monastery to anyone who requested it.
2019 will see the start of an active and organised cultural revitalisation based on guided tours and various events to promote the monastery: talks, workshops, concerts, etc.
To channel the group’s abundant social action, the Bretal Foundation was created, which since 2021 has been responsible, among other things, for managing the monastery’s cultural activities.
VISITS TO MOSTEIRO DE OIA
Due to the current condition of the monument, which is undergoing restoration and remains in a state of consolidated ruin, visits to Mosteiro de Oia are scheduled during specific periods of the year and adapted to the condition of the building and the conservation and restoration work being carried out.
During the summer of 2026, Mosteiro de Oia opened its doors from 1 July to 31 August, offering a programme of accompanied and guided visits that gave visitors the opportunity to discover the history, heritage and different spaces of the monastery, as well as the permanent exhibition Os presos do Mosteiro: memorias da Guerra Civil española.
With the summer programme now concluded, Mosteiro de Oia is currently closed to the public. Details of the next opening and new visiting opportunities will be announced in due course through our usual channels.
GROUP VISITS
Mosteiro de Oia can also be visited by groups by prior booking, offering a private experience to discover the history, heritage and secrets of this unique site overlooking the Atlantic.
