R\u00faa Policarpo Sanz, 26.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OPENING TIMES:<\/strong> Monday to Saturday, 17:30\u201320:30 \/\/ Sundays and public holidays closed<br><strong>FREE ENTRY<\/strong> (subject to capacity)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA Monastery, a Sea of Stories\u201d highlights the heritage of the Monastery of Oia, the only Cistercian monastery located on the Atlantic coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition spans 875 years\u2014from the 12th to the 21st century\u2014revealing, for the first time, unknown episodes from both the Monastery and the history of Galicia itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Presented in Vigo for the first time, \u201cA Monastery, a Sea of Stories\u201d offers a unique, all-ages experience that explores the grandeur of the Cistercian monastery of Santa Mar\u00eda de Oia (Pontevedra), distinguished by its exceptional heritage value and unique coastal location as the only Cistercian monastery on the Atlantic shoreline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition, an initiative in collaboration with Rodr\u00edguez + Pintos Arquitectos, the Xunta de Galicia, and Afundaci\u00f3n (ABANCA Social Work), takes place at Afundaci\u00f3n\u2019s Vigo venue. It presents, in an in-depth and innovative way, the history of this monument\u2014an essential part of Galicia\u2019s heritage\u2014promoting its historical and artistic value and fostering cultural enrichment in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The title \u201cA Monastery, a Sea of Stories\u201d evokes the multiple narratives interwoven around the monastery, reflecting the diversity of accounts associated with it and the depth of its historical legacy. The exhibition presents the Monastery of Oia (a Site of Cultural Interest since 1931) as a focal point of events from the medieval period to the present day, highlighting its architectural significance and its relationship with the surrounding territory. Its legacy is brought to life through this initiative promoted by Grupo MARE\u2014owner of the Monastery since 2004\u2014via the Bretal Foundation, which advocates a management model based on conservation, heritage dissemination, and cultural and territorial value enhancement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Monastery of Oia: 875 years of history, four narratives, three thematic axes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed for diverse audiences, \u201cA Monastery, a Sea of Stories\u201d presents four compelling narratives grounded in rigorous research, enabling both intellectual engagement and an immersive sensory experience through an innovative, interactive approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition explores the Monastery\u2019s past, present, and future and is structured around three thematic and chronological axes: the monastic period (12th\u201319th centuries), the post-monastic period (19th\u201320th centuries), and a final section titled \u201cRebirth\u201d, which presents the future project of the Monastery as a hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Free of charge and designed for all audiences, the exhibition spans 875 years of history and reveals a future yet to be discovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Programme of activities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A parallel programme of events complements and expands on the exhibition content.
